General & account
Tempr is three products on one account: Chat, an agent toolset inside Visual Studio, VS Code, and JetBrains IDEs; CLI, the same agent in your terminal; and Gateway, an OpenAI-compatible API for your own provider keys. All are bring-your-own-key (BYOK) — Tempr never fronts provider tokens or takes a cut of them.
No. The CLI is included with every Tempr Chat plan and runs on the same license. Gateway is a separate entitlement that starts with a free tier and doesn't require an IDE license — all three share one login at the Portal, and one Stripe customer if you're on paid plans for more than one.
Everything lives in the Tempr Portal — licenses, spend, usage by model, and Gateway virtual keys. Billing changes (plan upgrades, downgrades, cancellation) happen in your Stripe customer portal.
Yes — sign in with the same account and license wherever you use it. On Standard and above, your chat sessions, tool preferences, and custom personas sync to the cloud, so your setup follows you across machines.
The Gateway has a free tier — 10,000 requests a month, no card required. Chat and the CLI don't have a free plan, but every paid Chat plan starts with a 7-day free trial, and the CLI is included with it.
BYOK & privacy
Yes — every Tempr product is bring-your-own-key. Add a key for a first-party provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI) or an aggregator (OpenRouter and others), and Tempr talks to that provider directly using your key. The full list is on the providers page.
A first-party provider (like OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google) hosts its own models directly. An aggregator (like OpenRouter) routes a single API key to 300+ models from many providers through one consistent interface. You can bring keys for either — or both.
Around 30 today — first-party providers, inference hosts, cloud platforms, and aggregators, all enforced by a server-side allowlist. See the full, current list on the providers page; if yours isn't listed yet, tell us and we'll look at adding it.
Your requests are relayed through our servers to the provider or aggregator you configure, always using your own key — never pooled or shared with other customers. When you use agent mode, the multi-turn tool-calling loop runs server-side for reliability (so it can survive a dropped connection and resume mid-turn); tool-call requests and results, which can include snippets of your code, pass through our servers and are retained there to support that run.
Encrypted at rest, never logged in plain text, and never pooled or shared across customers — requests always go out on the key you supplied, for the account you configured.
No. Every request goes out on a key you supplied, at your provider's own rates — Tempr never fronts tokens or takes a cut. What you pay Tempr for is the product wrapped around your key: the IDE extension and CLI tooling, or the Gateway's virtual keys, logs, and analytics.
Billing & plans
Chat is Standard $15/mo or Pro $20/mo (Teams from $35/seat/mo), the CLI is included with every Chat plan, and the Gateway starts free with paid tiers at $49/mo and $249/mo. Full breakdowns and comparison tables are on the pricing page.
After you start checkout, a license key is issued by the server and emailed to the address used at checkout — including during your 7-day free trial. You can then activate it in the extension or sign in with it in the CLI.
Every paid Chat plan (Standard and Pro) starts with a 7-day free trial. Subscribe, use the full plan for a week, and cancel anytime before the trial ends if it's not for you — you won't be charged. Current pricing is limited-time, so the rate you sign up at is the rate you keep.
Yes — plans are managed as Stripe subscriptions, so you can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time from your Stripe customer portal. Changes take effect on your next billing cycle.
We don't offer refunds. You can cancel anytime from your Stripe customer portal to stop future billing — every paid plan starts with a 7-day free trial, so you can try it out before you're charged.
Yes — Teams starts at $35/seat/month with a 10-seat minimum, billed centrally on one subscription. It includes everything in Pro for every seat, plus centralized billing, seat management, shared team personas/config, SSO (SAML/OIDC), and org-managed virtual keys — pool provider keys centrally and set per-member budget, rate, and model limits. Send a message via the contact form and we'll follow up with a quote and a signup link.
Payments run through Stripe, so major credit and debit cards work. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel anytime from your Stripe customer portal.
